Trinity House Vessel (THV) Galatea is one of the Trinity House fleet of lighthouse tenders. She is used for maintenance work on aids to navigation including lighthouses, buoys and lightvessels. She is also used for wreck marking and towing and can be used for hydrographic surveying. Primarily she covers the waters of England and Wales.
She is the second Trinity House vessel to be named Galatea; the first was a paddle yacht launched in 1868, served with Trinity House until 1895.
The current ship was built in 2007, replacing THV Mermaid. On retirement from the lighthouse service, Mermaid was renamed Ocean Observer and commissioned as a survey vessel for Gardline at Great Yarmouth.
