Grace Darling Memorial
Photo: Patrick Tubby

The memorial to Grace Darling is located in St Aidan’s Churchyard, Bamburgh, near to the RNLI Grace Darling Museum.

Grace Darling was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper at Longstone Lighthouse, and became famous in 1838 when she and her father rescued nine survivors from the SS Forfarshire which ran aground close to the lighthouse.

Grace died at the young age of 26 in 1842 and the memorial was erected in the same year. It has since been restored in 1885, 1895 and 2013.
